Abstract LiNbO3 piezoelectric particles of high Curie point coated by SiO2 via solgel method were used and then LiNbO3(SiO2)/ZL102composites were fabricated through pressure infiltration. Damping properties from 30 °C to 350 °C were measured by dynamic mechanical thermal analyzer (DMTA). The results reveal that the damping capacity of LiNbO3(SiO2)/ZL102 composite is three times the value of ZL102 alloy and two times as high as LiNbO3/ZL102 composite at 30 °C. And with increasing temperature the damping capacities of three types of materials increase together and gradually become close. In the present paper, piezo-damping was achieved by using poled LiNbO3 piezoelectric particles. Moreover, the piezodamping was enhanced by SiO2 coatings, which changed the resistivity around LiNbO3 particles.
