Abstract There are many similarities in theory and process between scientific research projects management in institutions of higher education and product lifecycle management, while the closedloop product lifecycle management has good competence. After the summary and analysis of the current problems of the traditional scientific research management mode, this paper described the ideas and process of the design of scientific research innovative management mode based on closedloop lifecycle model in institutions of higher education. The practices of near ten “985 project” universities show that the scientific research innovative management mode can improve scientific research management performance, and the mode deserves being popularized in others institutions of higher education.
