Robust Optimization for an Autobody Outer Panel Stamping Process |

Abstract In the case of an autobody outer panel stamping process, a metamodel based on FEsimulation, design of experiment, response surface methodology(RSM) and MonteCarlo method was constructed and the deterministic optimization result was obtained. By constructing and solving the robust optimization model composed of mean and standard deviation of quality index, the robust optimal solution was obtained and compared with the deterministic optimization result. It is demonstrated that the product quality variations are reduced significantly, and quality targets (reject rate) are achieved under the robust optimal solution. This method can also be used during the early phase of product and tooling design to reduce commissioning period.
