Abstract Several mountings, such as steelcomposite material hybrid mounting with/without vibration isolation mass and the steel mounting, were optimized considering the vibration level difference and stress constraints. And the weight of structure is chosen as the objective function. The corresponding structural dynamic optimization mathematical models were established. By introducing the Kriging surrogate programming, the models were solved by multiisland genetic algorithm. The computational results show the steelcomposite material hybrid mounting has better effect than the conventional steel mounting in vibration reduction. The introduction of composite materials plays a key role on vibration. The effectiveness of vibration isolation mass was also demonstrated. The adoption of optimal design method is a necessary means during the design of hybrid mounting.
