Abstract Abstract: During the earth pressure balance (EPB) shield tunneling, face stability is very important for controlling the impact on the environment. Field measurement was used to study the development and distribution of the excess pore pressure and earth pressure increment. Based on the monitored data, the fluidsolid coupling numerical model was used to analyze the face stability of tunnels with consideration of the influence of excess pore pressures in loading and unloading conditions. Subsequently, parametric analysis was executed to study the influence of the soil permeability coefficient and shield stopping time on face stability.
