Abstract A novel hybrid filtering system was designed. This system is composed of both the largecapacity passive filter and the smallcapacity active filter. Considering the fact that the ship’s multicondition operation may cause the change of topology structure and parameters in power system, hybrid filters were introduced. The largercapacity passive filter is to remove the specific order harmonics, and the smallcapacity active filter is to be used in compensation and system finetuning. After being verified in the power system of a large ship, the new filter is proven to have high performancetoprice ratio and is suitable to the multicondition operation of large ships.
