| Vision System for Molten Pool and Cathode Cleaning Zone Detecting during VP TIG Welding

Abstract To realize the realtime detection of molten pool and cathode cleaning zone of VP TIG welding, this article analyzed arc spectrum of aluminum alloy variable polarity TIG welding. Based on it, appropriate filtering was selected, and a vision system was designed to observe the molten pool and the cathode cleaning zone, and clear images were obtained. Images of the molten pool and cathode cleaned zone with different percent of reverse polarity were obtained and compared. The results agree well with the cleaned zone observed after welding.In addition,the effect of the EP% on cathode cleaning and molten pool was studied and the relation curve was obtained, which can be put into practical welding for welding parameters setting.
