A Modified Argyris Element Method for Kirchhoff Plates Bending Problems |

Abstract A modified Argyris element was constructed and used for numerically solving Kirchhoff plate bending problems. The comparison between modified Argyris element and usual Argyris element was given, and the numbers of degrees of freedom between modified Argyris element and some usual nonconforming elements were also compared in details. Then a priori error estimate of modified Argyris element method was provided. The basis functions were presented for real applications. Finally, a posteriori error estimator was established for the modified Argyris element method, which is efficient and reliable.
