Abstract The principle of the indicated mean effective pressure (IMEP) method to measure the piston assemblycylinder friction was derived, and the method for calculation of the inertia force of piston assembly and connecting rod was obtained. Then, a reliable transmission of connecting rod stress signal was achieved using wireless transmission method, and piston assemblycylinder friction forces were measured at a range of engine operating speed under motored conditions.
