Abstract Thermal process inside battery compartment of underwater vehicle was theoretically analyzed and experimentally measured when batteries are discharging under some working condition. Otherwise, temperaturetime curves and temperature contours inside battery compartment were simulated by FLUENT software when heat conductivity of battery framework is different. It is indicated that when the heat conductivity of battery framework is higher, the maximum temperature inside compartment is lower, meanwhile, using aluminum framework can lower the maximum temperature to 64 °C, which can meet the temperature requirement (≤70 °C).
