Abstract

Panvascular diseases refer to a group of vasculopathies sharing common etiological factors, characterized by atherosclerosis (AS), which can affect multiple essential sites including vital organs such as the brain, heart, and kidneys, as well as the limbs. Intermittent hypoxia (IH) can readily exacerbate the progression of panvascular diseases. In recent years, hypoxic burden (HB) has emerged as a novel metric for assessing IH severity, garnering increasing attention for its clinical value in evaluating panvascular diseases. This review synthesizes current research on the application value of HB in evaluating the pathogenesis, progression, and adverse clinical outcomes of panvascular diseases, including cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, and chronic kidney diseases.
