Abstract Ignition delay of nbutanoloxygennitrogen mixtures were measured behind reflected shock waves in a double diaphragm chemical shock tube at temperature ranges of 1 04332~1 16372 K, pressure at 0671~0835 MPa, and equivalence ratio at 10, 15, and 05 respectively. The experimental results show that the ignition delay of the mixtures decreases with the increase in temperature and equivalence ratio. The logarithmic value of the ignition delay is proportional to the reciprocal of temperature and agrees well with Arrheniustype correlation equation. An Arrheniustype correlation equation for the ignition delay time of butanoloxygennitrogen mixtures was developed. The results illustrate that the ignition delay of butanol shows strong dependence on the pressure, but active energy is less sensitive to the equivalence ratio.
