Abstract To optimize the drawing and flanging process, three objective functions for fracture, wrinkle and thickness varying were built using theoretical analysis and numerical simulations. In order to minimize the defects of sheet metal forming simultaneously, a synthetical method was developed based on the multiobjective optimization technique. In this method, taking the air conditioner front panel as an example, response surface models were created by combining experimental design and data handling with Matlab. Then, an improved fast non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm was used to obtained a set of Pareto front, which minimized rupture, wrinkle and uneven thickness integrally. The results of numerical simulation and production test show that the
optimization model is valid and practical.
