Thermal Error Modeling and RealTime Compensation of CNC Machine Tools Based on Time Series Method

Abstract
Abstract: The principle and process of thermal error modeling on NC machine tools based on the time series method were presented. Comprehensive analysis software of the time series method was used to preprocess the thermal error datum, recognize the mode, estimate the parameters of the model, and distinguish and confirm the model order through a loop computing method. After that, a realtime compensation model was established which showed the changing rule of thermal error on NC machine tools. The iteration coefficients were adjusted in real time with the analysis and comparison of the variation of temperature. The thermal error compensation model established was used to realize the realtime compensation for the thermal drift error of CNC machine tools by making use of the realtime compensation system. The processing results with compensation showed that the errors of the workpieces in diametric direction were reduced from 112 μm to 7 μm, which demonstrated that the machining precision and stability of the machine tool were improved significantly.
