Abstract: “Free Fruit for Young Widows” is about Tendler and Shimmy Gezer, two survivors in Holoc Gaust: while Tendler represents violence and Revenge, Gezer kindness and reconciliation. Through the story, Nathan Englander reconsiders such issues as Holocaust, humanity and Jewish identity. By proposing an alternative way to cope with Holocaust trauma, Englander interrogates, by way of insinuation, the national terrorism policy adopted by Isreal and its Holocaust based rationale. Meanwhile, the ritualistic narration of the story suggests the return of Jewish tradition and rituals manifest in contemporary American Jewish writers represented by Nathan Englander.
