中国古典名著《三国演义》杨宪益-戴乃迭夫妇英文节译本与张亦文英文节译本不约而同地选译了有关赤壁之战的章节(第43回至第50回)。本文发现两个节译本极其相似,绝大多数章回几乎完全相同。本文通过详细的文本比对分析译本正文的语言特色,利用译本序言、出版信息、相关书评等副文本阐述译本之间的关系,结合文本以外的社会文化因素断定张亦文英文节译本大量严重抄袭杨宪益-戴乃迭夫妇英文节译本。本文认为,撰写文献综述必须尽可能利用第一手文献并进行深入研究,仅仅引述他人文献难免以讹传讹。
Coincidentally, both Yang Xianyi & Gladys Yang and Cheung Yik-man translated chapters 43 to 50,which concern the Battle of the Red Cliff in the classical Chinese novel San Guo Yan Yi. This paper elaborates on the relation between the two partial translations and argues that they are strikingly similar and almost identical throughout several chapters. Through an in-depth analysis of the translations and of the paratextual elements including the preface, publication information, book reviews, and with reference to extra-textual sociocultural factors, the paper concludes that Cheung Yik-man plagiarized Yang and Yang's version copiously in a blatant manner. It is imperative that primary sources should be drawn upon as much as possible and fully utilized in literature reviews, given the fact that indiscriminate citation of secondary sources is often misleading and tends to perpetuate existing errors.
