摘要

语言景观是社会语言学的研究热点,主要指公共空间中各种语言标牌的使用及其象征意义。基于此,本文提出了翻译景观的下属概念,特指公共场所中呈现的双语或多语的使用现象,其中的双语或多语之间有一定的信息对应关系,不管是完全对应还是部分对应。本文以杭州西湖风景名胜区为例,拍摄并选取其中的170张双语或多语标牌为研究对象,通过定量、定性分析,发现语言意识形态、语言政策、公示语的作者与读者、英语帝国主义、主要临近国家、官方与非官方标牌等因素都会影响旅游景区翻译景观面貌的形成。

Abstract

As a hot topic in sociolinguistics, linguistic landscape mainly refers to the use of written language signs in public sphere and its symbolic meaning. Inspired by this concept, a new sub-concept of linguistic landscape is put forward in this paper, namely translation landscape, which refers to the written use of two or more languages in public sphere, information contained in the different languages in a single sign fully or partially corresponding with each other. This paper investigates 170 bilingual and multilingual signs taken in the West Lake scenic area in Hangzhou, and through quantitative and qualitative analyses finds that various factors have an influence on the overall formation and characteristics of translation landscape in tourist areas, such as linguistic ideology, language policy, the designer and reader of public signs, English imperialism, major adjacent countries, official or non-official signs etc.
