    Fostering International Collaboration | De Gruyter Publishing House Visits Shanghai Jiao Tong University Journal Center

  • Shanghai, November 6th, 2023-Promoting international cooperation and knowledge exchange, a delegation from De Gruyter Publishing House paid a visit to the Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) Journal Center. Led by Lyndsey Dixon, Vice President of Global Periodicals Publishing and Asia-Pacific Publishing Partnerships, the De Gruyter team included Wendy Ding, Editorial Director China, Director Publishing Partnerships, APAC Journals Editorial Director, Acquisition of De Gruyter, Clare Sun, Asia-Pacific Partnerships Manager, and Xibo Feng, Publishing Assistant. They were welcomed by Yi Tan, the Director of SJTU Journal Center, Yunze Cai, Deputy Director of SJTU Journal Center, along with Xiaolong Wang, Wenli Sun, Yuhang Mao, Publishers of Elite Journals Office, and Xue Rui, Publisher of SJTU Journal Center. The meeting was gracefully hosted by Fei Pan, Assistant Director of Journal Center.


    During the meeting, Yi Tan expressed his warm appreciation for the visit, offering insights into the growing trends of English journals and SJTU's international collaboration approach. He emphasized the significance of the SJTU-De Gruyter Joint Lab, highlighting its potential for extensive cooperation in professional publisher training, innovative publishing methods, and elevating the international influence of academic journals. This, he noted, would establish a platform to enhance China's international communication capabilities and academic discourse.


    Lyndsey Dixon conveyed her gratitude for the warm reception by the Journal Centre and expressed the hope for both institutions to identify areas of collaboration, leverage their respective strengths, and achieve mutually beneficial progress through this exchange. The visit underscores the commitment of both parties to advancing international academic discourse and fostering meaningful cooperation in the world of scholarly publishing. Wendy Ding emphasized De Gruyter's extensive experience in publishing high-quality STM journals. She highlighted their commitment to aligning the resources and strategies of both parties, furthering the international development of Jiao Tong University's academic journals. She expressed the company's dedication to exploring a unique international cooperation approach, infused with Chinese characteristics.


    Following this, both parties engaged in detailed discussions and outlined plans for collaboration. Topics covered included journal publishing, the establishment and operation standardization of the Joint Lab, and open fund management.


    As a part of the visit, the Journal Center guided De Gruyter's delegation through the electronic display platform showcasing SJTU journals and the historical Wall of Honor. The visit by the De Gruyter Publishing House serves as a significant step in deepening and broadening international perspectives. It sets the stage for forging diverse pathways in journal publishing and lays a sturdy foundation to propel the university towards a new paradigm of "comprehensive, innovative, and international" academic development. This initiative further promotes the high-quality growth of the academic journal cluster within SJTU.
