Abstract

Objective To explore the clinical application and outcome of the bipedicled pre-expended superficial temporary artery visor flap in the post-burn reshaping of lower facial contour. Methods From January 2014 to January 2017,10 male patients were treated with bipedicled pre-expended superficial temporary artery visor flap for the coverage of the defect in upper and lower lips. After inserting the tissue expander below scalp in first stage,a period of 6-8 months was conducted for tissue expansion.Second stage operation was then applied based on the principle of subunits. Results All the flap survived and covered the upper and lower lip area without any postoperative complications. All patients were followed up for 6-12 months. The flap was soft and not puffy. The skin color was similar to that around the lip.The function of mouth opening and expression was good without obvious scars. Conclusion The bipedicled pre-expended superficial temporary artery visor flap is safe and effective in the reconstruction of skin defect of upper and lower lips for male patients.
