Abstract

Skin is the largest target organ for estrogen among reproductive organs. During postmenopausal period, the decline in estrogen level accelerates the aging of skin. Estrogen replacement therapy(HRT) or local application of estrogen in the treatment of female menopause symptoms can improve the skin condition, which increases the amount of collagen and elastic fibers in the dermis and extra cellular matrix, thus improves the thickness, elasticity and moisturizing ability of skin and reduces wrinkles, but its mechanism remains to be further researched. In this paper, the effect of estrogen on the skin and the mechanism were summarized.
