Abstract In order to research the dynamic response and damage mode of reinforced concrete slabs under the conditions of contact explosion, based on the dimensional analysis, the dimensionless relationship between the damage characteristics (the damage diameter, the perforation diameter and the back collapse diameter) of the reinforced concrete slab and the cylindrical charge diameter and the length to diameter ratio is obtained. A finite element model of charge-air-reinforced concrete slab is established by using AUTODYN, the dynamic response and damage mode of reinforced concrete slabs under different diameters and length to diameter ratios of charges are studied. Finally, on the basis of a large number of numerical calculations, the empirical formulas of the relationship between the diameter, the length to diameter ratio of the charge and the damage characteristics of the reinforced concrete slabs are summarized to provide a reference for the damage assessment of important buildings, bridges and protective structures.
