Abstract: Jeanne Duval— Baudelaire's mistress/muse—was silenced and marginalized through the colonial discourse of aesthetic centrism stance, thus leading to the suppression of Jeanne Duval's subjectivity. Angela Carter in her short novel Black Venus restores her to life and represent how colonial aesthetic centrist discourse deprived Duval of her real presence, thus re-constructing Jeanne Duval's subjectivity.
