Abstract: A brief historical review uncovers that the ideas, advocated by linguistic relativism, text linguistics, sociolinguistics, and functional linguistics, about how language interacts with social reality have been absorbed and developed by Critical Discourse Analysis to form new perspective, research method, and analytic tools for linguistic analysis.
