A New Insight into Chinese-English Number Metaphors

摘要: 传统学界将数字概念局限于语言学内部,而认知语言学将其跃升为由此及彼、由表及里地识解其他抽象概念的隐喻路径。本文在充分论证数字的隐喻性本质的基础上,全面搜集了汉英语言素材,进一步将两种语言的数字隐喻进行系统对比,以期概括出汉英数字隐喻的异同并挖掘其背后深刻的发生理据。

Abstract: The traditional academic field confines number concepts within linguistics while Cognitive Linguistics highlights it as the metaphorical path which can conceptualize other abstract concepts from the known to the unknown. On the basis of sufficient demonstration of numbers' metaphorical nature, related materials have been comprehensively collected. Besides, the author contrasts number metaphors systematically between two languages in an attempt to summarize its similarities and differences as well as the profound motivation behind.
