《论当代德意志文学之断片集》 (1766~1768)是德国著名思想家赫尔德发表的首部大型作品集,其内容和写作风格清晰呈现了赫尔德的基本语言观。赫尔德认为语言与思维存在着密切的联系,指出了语言的界限,此乃传统欧陆语言哲学之命题。他比较了多种语言,分析了语言的历史发展,这些思想促进了历史比较语言学的形成和发展。同时,他又提出了日常语言的重要性,可谓现代英美分析哲学的先驱。而赫尔德的“美文”式写作风格则对狂飙突进和浪漫主义的发展起到了巨大的推动作用。
“Fragments on Recent German Literature” (1766 1768) is the first published collection of works of the German thinker Johann Gottfried Herder (1744 1803). Its content and writing style shows the Herder's basic concept of language. Herder believed that there was a close link between language and thought and pointed out the limits of language. These are the topics of traditional philosophy of language in Continental Europe. He analyzed different languages and the historical development of the language, which promoted the formation and development of Historical and Comparative Linguistics. Meanwhile, he proposed the importance of everyday language, and thus became a pioneer of modern British and American analytic philosophy. Herders writing style of “schöne Prose” played a huge role in the development of the period of “Sturm und Drang” and romanticism.
