The Unit, Method and Effect of “Edited Translation” Employed in Translating Evolution and Ethics: A Case Study on Yan Fu’s Adaptation Techniques

Abstract: “Edited Translation” is one of the most frequently-used strategies of translation variation employed by Yan Fu in translating Evolution and Ethics. The units of “Edited Translation” include sentence, sentence group, paragraph, passage, text and book, with a high frequency of “Edited Translation” occurrence in sentence group and paragraph. The methods of “Edited Translation” cover division, combination, adjustment, and subtitle offering, and the effects of “Edited Translation” can meet the needs of text organization, target readers’ thinking mode, meaning reconfiguration, and coherence and cohesion of text.
