Abstract: Albeit its impressive achievements so far, China's contemporary large-scale reform on the teaching of college English is suffering from a serious bottleneck that seems to have crippled all reform efforts: English is being taken as the end rather than a means of subject studies. After a detailed research into contemporary college English textbooks, this project team realizes the content-based Immersion Teaching Theory in the course of American Civilization, and thereby constructs a Dynamic Teaching Mode by catering to the students' interest with proper materials and mobilizing the concerted efforts of both teachers and students with a repertoire of pedagogical programs. The DTM finally boils down to a feasible and applicable teaching format that is most likely to revolutionize present practices of college English pedagogy.
