It's a controversial issue that what Pamuk had expressed in his novels. On the basis of former studies, this article is trying to put forward another view: Pamuk had manifested the soul of turkey, i.e. the self-abasement, angry, misery and sorrow of a empire's descendant, who is eager and struggle to defeat West, but has no power to accomplish this mission, only to been humiliated and despised by its enemy. This problem is also closely related with the subject of cultural hybrid and clash, love narrative, the style of “hüzün”, etc.
