Clinical effect of Kou Chuang San in treating oral mucositis associated with chemotherapy in malignant hematologic patient after autologous stem cell transplantation

Abstract

Objective To study clinical effect with Kou Chuang San in oral mucositis associated with chemotherapy in malignant hematologic patient during autologous stem cell transplantation. Methods From April 2016 to December 2021,149 patients with oral mucositis who received autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in the Department of Hematology in Ruijin hospital were enrolled and divided into two groups according to receiving Kou Chuang San treatment or not. The treatment group was applied to Kou Chuang San on the first day after stem cell transplantation, while the patients who did not receive Kou Chuang San treatment belonged to the control group. Oral mucositis grading and therapeutic effects were compared between the two groups. Results The incidence of oral mucositis in the treatment group was significantly lower than that in the control group (87.18% vs 6.25%, P<0.001). Conclusions The Kou Chuang San is effective and safe in treating patients with oral mucositis after autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.
