Abstract: Objective To analyze the statistical correlation between the mandibular deformity and external ear malformation of hemifacial microsomia(HFM). Methods From January 2013 to December 2014, 118 cases with HFM were enrolled according to the modified OMENS plus classification system. Multiple view angle of photography, facial 3D scanning and head CT scan were performed in all cases. External ear malformation was classified according to multiple view angle of photography and facial 3D scanning. The mandible was measured and classified by 3D reconstruction and Mimics software.Statistical correlation between mandibular deformity and external ear malformation was analyzed by logistic regression model. Results In 118 patients, all patients showed mandibular deformity: type M1 in 27 patients(22.9%), type M2 A in 45patients(38.1%), M2 b type in 41 patients(34.7%) and type M3 in 5 patients(4.2%). All patients presented mild to severe ear malformation: type E1 in 20 cases(16.9%), type E2 in 24 cases(20.3%), type E3 in 51 cases(43.2%) and type E4 in 23cases(19.5%). Correlation coefficient(P =0.647) showed no significant statistical correlation between these two criteria. Conclusion There is no significant correlation of the severity between the mandibular deformity and external ear malformation in the patients with HFM.
