Abstract In this paper, two kinds of guidance laws of tracking the missile height are proposed in order to meet the demand of controlling the flying height of cruise missiles. The first one assumes that the height control loop to be a 2nd order zero-static-error system, and controls the height by adjusting the stability of the system. The second one controls the flying height by introducing velocity compensation, deriving the nonlinear relationships between the excepted height and the excepted missile overload. The missile dynamic equations are built, and the numerical simulation are given to show the characters of each law using typical height orders. Furthermore, the value of the designed guidance laws in engineering application is well proved.
