Abstract：We review the mechanism of CO2 corrosion in gas field exploitation of a platform in the South China Sea. The relevant protection methods are also introduced. The importance of weight control is emphasized to this platform. The selection of pipe material is considered to reduce piping weight so that the overall weight of the platform is controlled within the required weight limits.
