Abstract: API 17N provides a structured approach to manage the risks and uncertainties associated with reliability and integrity performance in the life cycle of a project, from general project risk management to the identification and elimination of specific equipment failure modes. The basic method is simple and consistent. Rational use can greatly reduce the economic and safety environmental risks of underwater equipment or system design, manufacture, installation and operation. This paper mainly outlines the reasons, basic principles, methods and basic contents of API 17N compilation, and introduces the reasons for revision, as well as the contents of adjustment, such as adding integrity management. This article does not introduce the details of API 17N, but introduces the basic model and the key process. Finally, it introduces the relationship between API 17N and other API standard documents, as well as the experience learned from recent events.
