Mooring chain is an important component of mooring system to maintain the safety of offshore units. As the offshore industry heading out to deeper water and facing various extreme weathers, the design code and standards became stricter to ensure the performance and reliability of mooring chain. Meanwhile, the study on the mooring chain has become hot spot of the industry. This paper introduces the research and development progress of offshore mooring chain from basic properties to fatigue and corrosion performance. It also provides references for the designer and user of mooring chain by summarizing the latest research results.
