摘要： 美国著名翻译家和鲁迅研究专家威廉·莱尔的鲁迅小说译本既忠实顺畅,又追求“神似”,获得了广泛的赞誉。本文以威廉·莱尔英译本Diary of a Madman, and Other Stories(《鲁迅的〈狂人日记〉及其他小说》)作为研究对象,从意译、归化等翻译策略入手,通过大量对比分析原文和译文,探讨威廉·莱尔的译介策略及其翻译自觉,分析和阐释该译本成功之道及其可资借鉴之处。

Abstract: William A. Lyell is an American expert in translating and the study of Lu Xun's short stories. Embodying both faithfulness as well as expressiveness, William A. Lyell's translations have won widespread praise. Selecting William A. Lyell's representative translations as the study object, this thesis focuses on his flexible strategies, like liberal translation and domestication, supported by large numbers of examples from Diary of a Madman, and Other Stories. William A. Lyell's successful translation of Lu Xun's short stories sets a good example for prompting Chinese literature to the world.
