An Integrated Governance Model for Foreign Languages and Literatures Postgraduate Education in the New Era: The Case of the Reform of Student Development Scheme of the “Area Studies” Program

Abstract:

In the New Era, the comprehensive “Quality Revolution” in China's higher education necessitated by the New Development Philosophy and the New Development Paradigm, has brought about profound changes in the intension and objectives of education quality. This paper, by putting the reforms in undergraduate and graduate education in the context of China's transformation and development at the new stage, reveals their commonalities and differences,develops a new Integrated Governance model for “Foreign Languages and Literatures” postgraduate education, which is regarded as a student development model with high compatibility and adaptability. The student development scheme for the program of Area Studies at Shanghai International Studies University, has adopted the above concepts and strategies in its reform, thus informing the reform of postgraduate education in the discipline of “Foreign Languages and Literatures”.
