综合英语课程改革对英语专业学生思辨能力发展的影响

The Effects of Comprehensive English Course Reforms on English Majors' Critical Thinking Abilities Development

摘要: 针对近年来外语界提出的“思辨缺席”现象,我系综合英语课程成功申请了上海市教委本科重点课程项目,课程强调了培养学生思辨能力这一教学目标,并在教学材料、教学方法和考核方式上作了相应的改革。本研究以思辨能力层级模型为理论框架,通过问卷调查测量思辨能力中的情感维度和认知技能使用情况、通过写作测试测量思辨能力中的认知标准,采用同一组研究对象前测-后测与实验组-对照组相结合的设计,考察综合英语课程改革对英语专业学生思辨能力发展的影响,以期发现成功与不足之处,为外语专业本科教学提供启示。

Abstract: In view of "absence of critical thinking" among students majoring in foreign languages in China, reforms in teaching materials, teaching methods and evaluation system have been launched in the Comprehensive English Course in our school in order to help undergraduate students develop their critical thinking abilities. With the hierarchical model of critical thinking as the theoretical framework, this study investigates the effects of these reforms on the development of the English majors' critical thinking abilities by combining the pretest-post-test with the control-experiment design. A questionnaire is used to measure the dispositional dimension and the use of cognitive skills, while a writing test is used to measure cognitive standards. In what ways the reforms are effective and in what ways they are still lacking are discussed and suggestions are given to improve the teaching of undergraduate courses of foreign languages.
