Abstract: Chinese ancient poems, the quintessence of Chinese traditional culture, contains diversified cultural connotations which reflect a unique charm of Chinese culture. Engagement in the research of transforming Chinese ancient poems into English is not only beneficial to the promotion of translation studies, but also to the dissemination of Chinese culture to all over the world. The great difference in structures of the Chinese and English languages, however, usually gives rise to bewilderment of translatability among target readers, and thus those translated texts have to be faced with challenges and skepticism when the gems of Chinese Culture are introduced to target readers. With the help of the Gestalt Theory, this paper attempts to construe the translatability of the Chinese ancient poems into English under the guidance of the Gestalt principles of integration, closure, salience, simplicity and continuity so that skepticism relevant to the translatability of the Chinese ancient poems into English is to be removed.
