Abstract: Speech self-repetition is the repetition the speaker makes on his own utterance at the lexical, phrasal or sentential level. As a cognitive strategy of the speaker, the self-repetition is pervasive both in the spontaneous speech and in the L2 speech. The present paper, anchoring on the COLSEC data, studies the self-repetition the Chinese English learners make in terms of its trajectory, frequency, taxonomy, function, internal causes and the problems it exhibits in the way the learners learn English and comes up with proper countermeasures.
