On the Perspectives for Reading: Challenges and Solutions

Abstract: Reading is a basic activity for people to obtain information and knowledge. It is also a heatedly debated issue in the academic circle both domestically and abroad. At present, the studies at home and abroad, after experiencing a process of slow increase in the last century, have won great attention and interests since the entry of this new century, and this is especially true for the studies of reading in teaching, methods, strategies and means. It should be pointed out that reading in the current time has displayed news features, and the reading activity has come up with new challenges. As a result, a theory of reading from new perspective is proposed. The new theory is interpreted from three dimensions from text, readers to the world, which is helpful to give a new understanding of reading in the field of direction, aim, starting point and essence. This theory can offer a new approach to the defects and predicament confronted by the reading activity.
