Abstract

The coexistence of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is referred to as COPD-OSA overlap, also known as overlap syndrome (OS). OS patients are more severe and have worse prognosis than those with OSA and COPD alone. Because pulmonary function and polysomnography cannot be conducted widely for patients, at present, there are many research to explore the clinical value of immunology, blood cell, gene protein, body fluid and other related biomarkers related to OS in assisting diagnosis, predicting the risk and severity of disease. This article reviews the recent research progress on OS-related biological markers.
