Preliminary Study of Selected Temporal PNF Resection

Abstract: Objective To explore the application of selective PNF resection in protecting the temporal branch of facial nerve. Methods From November 2011 to December 2012, 14 patients with PNF of the temporal area were operated. 9 patients were performed unselective tumor removal and 5 patients were performed selective tumor removal. The results were observed and compered between the two groups. Results All patients got face-looking improved after operation. But the function of temporal branch of facial nerve of non-selective removal patients was damaged and the eyebrows could not be raised after operation. The functions of facial nerve of selective removal patients were preserved. All the patients were followed up for 15 to 24 months, PNF recurrence was not observed. Conclusion The function of temporal branch of facial nerve can be preserved with the PNF selective removal.
