Abstract: Objective To explore the effectiveness of stellate ganglion block(SGB)in the easement of pain after orbital reconstruction. Methods Eighty patients undergoing orbital reconstruction were randomly assigned to two groups:SGB group(n=40)and control group(n=40).In PACU,SGB was performed successfully under sonography guidance using 8 mL of 0.25%bupivacaine in the SGB group, while no intervention was given in the control group. The effectiveness of the pain-relief was evaluated 1,2,4 and 24 hours after intervention The intraocular pressure was evaluated before intervention and 1,2,4,24 hours after intervention. The incidence of adverse events during intervention or follow-up was recorded. Results Compared with control group, the pain degree of the SGB group decreased 2,4 and 24 hours after injection, intraocular pressure decreased 1,2 and 4 hours after injection, and the differences between the two groups were statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion SGB is significantly effective in the easement of pain and reduction of intraocular pressure after orbital reconstruction.
