Analysis and Implication of the Demand for Translation Talents under the Background of the “Belt and Road”—A Case Study of Inner Mongolia MTI Education

摘要: 本研究以内蒙古自治区这一重要节点为例,通过调查问卷和访谈,对15家企事业单位包括自治区、市外事管理、服务部门、大型企事业单位、内蒙古驻外企业就该地区对外语翻译人才的需求状况、翻译人员现有服务能力和水平、能力要求等方面开展了调研。另外,对现有翻译硕士(MTI)学位授权单位的人才培养状况进行了梳理和分析。结果显示,内蒙古目前亟需服务于外向型经济发展的高级外语翻译人才;现有MTI人才培养目标和服务定位应加以调整,凸显民族特色和地域优势;各翻译人才培养高校应依托固有的办学优势和特色,其MTI培养应以翻译能力培养为主线,以实践为导向,以培养服务于内蒙古地方经济社会的应用型翻译人才为长远目标。

Abstract: Since the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative, the shortage of qualified translators and interpreters in the regions along the Belt and Road has impeded their local economic development and the acceleration of opening up policy. Taking Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, an important link as an example, this study surveys a total number of 15 enterprises and organizations, including foreign affairs offices, service departments and overseas companies through questionnaires and interviews, aiming to discover the demand for translation talents, the capability and level of the current translators' service, the ability requirements as well as the current status of MTI education in some local universities. The results show that Inner Mongolia has an urgent need for high-level translation talents to meet the need of the export-oriented economy; the objectives and service orientation of current MTI training programs should be adjusted to highlight the local ethnic characteristics and regional advantages; universities should rely on their inherent unique features in the cultivation of talents; MTI education should focus on the improvement of the translators' competence while emphasizing the importance of practical skills and establishing a long-term goal of training applied translation talents serving the need of the economic and social development of Inner Mongolia.
