Abstract:

Modern Chinese knowledge formation began by translating modern western ideas in order to resolve problems China faced. Misunderstandings from translations had enormous impact on China, as China has drawn from western ideas and experiences in its passage toward modernization. It is thus imperative to investigate the role of translation in China from the perspectives of “China Question of Western Theory” and “Epistemological Breaks”.

Key words: China Question of Western Theory, epistemological break, three dimensions of translation
