Abstract: Research on facial fat compartments has renewed the recognition of facial anatomy and aging process. Both descent and volumetric shift of facial fat compartments occur in the process of aging. Fat-compartment-targeted lipofilling and facelift have achieved satisfactory results. In this paper, the anatomy of midfacial fat compartments, the volume and position changes in the process of aging, and the clinical outcomes of facelift and lipofilling targeting on midfacial fat compartments were all reviewed, the drawbacks of current studies were summarized and the future research direction was prospected.
