Abstract: Objective To evaluate the efficacy of sclerotherapy for venous malformations(VMs) on head and neck region using ROI(region of interest) volumentry of MRI assessment by three-dimensional reconstruction measurement. Methods A retrospective analysis was selected, composed of 18 patients with VMs and fully qualified MRI data from October 2012 to March 2015. All patients were treated with sclerotherapy either once or twice and were divided into two groups. Percutaneous sclerotherapy was performed by direct injection of Ethanol(group A, n=11) and Polidocanol foam sclerosants(group B, n=7).Patients underwent MRI before and after sclerotherapy. All the patients were followed up for 2 to 30 months after treatment. The MRI data was imported into Mimics18.0 software. The threshold ranges of VMs in ROI MRI were selected. The regression rates of lesions were compared before and after sclerotherapy. And the results were evaluated by the response evaluation criteria in VMs. Results According to the ROI-volumentry of MRI assessment by three dimensional reconstruction measurement and the response evaluation criteria in VMs, the effective rate in Group A was 91%, and 86% in Group B. Conclusion The method of ROI-volumentry of MRI assessment by three-dimensional reconstruction measurement can reflect and evaluate the regression rates of the lesions after sclerotherapy for patients with VMs on head and neck region. Our expertence demonstrate the high practicability and potential of this method.
