The Factors Influencing Post-Mastectomy Patients’ Attitudes Towards Breast Reconstruction

Abstract: Objective To explore the related factors influencing post-mastectomy patients’ attitudes towards breast reconstruction.Methods In PKU Third Hospital,PKU First Hospital,PKU People’s Hospital,and Beijing Cancer Hospital,post-mastectomy inpatients suffered from breast cancer were investigated with self-developed questionnaire.Descriptive,univariate,and multivariate Logistic regression analyses were used.Results One hundred and eight cases were counted finally,39.8%(43/108) of the patients thought the breast reconstruction reasonable.There was significant discrepancies in the factors of age,occupation,education,household income,child status,and whether the surgeons informed mammaplasty to patients or not.In binary Logistic regression analysis(forward:LR),only age,education,and whether to be informed of the option of reconstruction were the related factors.Conclusion More and more patients consider reconstruction as a reasonable option.Surgeons should update the knowledge of breast reconstruction,popularize mammaplasty for breast cancer patients and improve their attitudes towards breast reconstruction.
