Abstract: Lacking blood vessels and nerve nourishment, cartilage has limited ability to repair and regenerate. Combining scaffolds, cells and active factors, tissue engineering has been considered as an important new direction for repairing cartilage injury. Scaffold plays an important role in the cartilage regeneration process, not only providing a support site for cell adhesion, but also improving the local microenvironment and affecting cell proliferation and differentiation. Many materials have been used to make biodegradable scaffolds: natural materials, synthetic materials and composite materials. In this paper, the materials that have been relatively widely used in cartilage tissue engineering were reviewed so as to provide valuable reference for researchers in this field.
