Abstract: The proper use of conjunctive cohesion plays an important role in the configuration of logical connections in legal texts. With two small self-built corpora as research tools, this paper investigates the distributional patterns and translation methods of conjunctive cohesion in two different types of legal texts, namely, prospectuses and legislative texts. It is found that conjunctive patterns in the two legal subgenres are different from one another in the wording and frequencies as well as in their realization in the translation. The conjunctives in the prospectuses tend to become implicit in the translation while those in the legislative texts tend to be more explicit in the translation. This paper then discusses the possible reasons for these disparities.
